Q: I'm new to all of this and am not really sure what an avatar,
web banner or link button is?

A:
I'll help guide you through and share some of the tips and advice I've gained from creating branding for others. Here's my very brief and basic guide to the types of branding you may want to consider if you're planning to use online social networking to successfully market your business:

1. An Avatar
- This is basically the fancy name for the little picture that represents you when you communicate on any social networking sites, it is sometimes known as your profile pic.  In most cases its a square jpeg image.

2.Web Banners - The long thin header strips that appear at the top of a website, blog or online shop.  Sizes will vary and are measured in pixels.  It is important to have your banner set up to the correct pixel size, especially the width, to ensure it fits the site correctly so that information or imagery doesn't get cropped off.  You can usually find the correct dimensions to use for your web banner in the help section of your website host's site.

4. Facebook Cover Pic - Now that Facebook has introduced it's new timeline, there are lots of rules facebook has put in place regarding what can and can not be displayed in the cover pic area. Click here to get the low down on those rules: https://www.facebook.com/page_guidelines.php
Basically, the safest option for the cover pic is to stick purely to product imagery and/or a brief, non misleading description of what you do.  That doesn't mean that your cover pic can't showcase your business in the best way possible, it just requires a little creativity to make your facebook page an extension of your brand. There is plenty of potential to display your product photos in an engaging way, as well as the opportunity to create matching icons for your apps links. Please see the example opposite of how I've set up my page.  Its not a mystery that Facebook pages which look exciting and professional attract larger followings..so it really is worth giving it some thought.

Q: What do I get with the basic
£40 branding package?

A:
It depends on what you need...

This package has been created to offer you the opportunity to give your business a consistent image across the web and in print, without squeezing your budget. Essentially you get 1 x high resolution logo design which has been created straight to my computer screen (no roughs, no options).
I will then resize and format that logo design on up to 4 additional items of digital artwork, whether that's for the web or to upload to an online printing company (such as vistaprint.com).  I say 'up to' 4 items because some printed items require more time type setting than others.

If you'd like more additional items created, I do a re-brand for £50 package where you can have 1 logo plus up to 8 extra items.

Think of it as a pick and mix, you can choose the items you'll need artwork for the most and I will include them in the package.

3. Link Buttons - These are handy jpeg images that are created to fit in with your branding and used to direct people to your other online social sites and shops from your website or blog i.e. 'find me on facebook' or 'find me on twitter'.  These buttons are simply uploaded as a picture which you save with a website link to the site or page you wish to direct people to.

Q: Will the designs be unique or will someone else have the same design?

A: I create all the elements for each branding design from scratch and approach each job individually...

All imagery contained within the branding is either hand-drawn by me or created as vector graphics by me. Your design will be tailored to your business, no design will be exactly the same and I make every effort to ensure your design represents your business in the best way possible.

With the designs I create for you, once the design is paid for in full, you will receive all the ready to use artwork and have ongoing license to use them in any way you need to, to market your business. With all the elements in the design having been originated by me, you can be assured that your branding will not cause any concern in the future with issues regarding copyright.

Please note that I do reserve the right to own the copyright on the hand-drawn elements of the design, as I may use parts of them in my own greetings cards and stationery designs for resale.  In the event that I do use parts of the design, it will be in a very discrete way that does not conflict with the individual nature of your brand design.

Q: How long does it take to get a re-brand done?

A: Please allow 10 working days for logos and rebrand designs from the date quoted to start work on the design.
Also, please be aware that I often have a waiting list running...

...During peak times it can be quite a number of weeks before I can make a start on a new design. The best thing to do is contact me as soon as you can if you're interested as I can provisionally book you in. I apologise in advance if you are faced with a bit of a wait - I try to limit the number of new logos or re-brand designs I do each week to ensure the quality of each design remains consistently the best I can deliver.

Having a bit of time to consider your branding is not such a bad thing as there are plenty of things to think through before starting a design.  Here is a quick and handy little checklist of questions I'd recommend asking yourself when looking to brief a designer to create your logo and branding:

1. What makes my business unique - can you sum that up in a quick and easy to grasp single minded proposition?...e.g. could you sell it to your granny in 30 seconds?!
2. Who are your current customers & what is it they value most about your business?
3. Where would you like your business to be in 5-10 years time?
4. Who are your ideal customers? ...its a good idea to look around at other businesses that already successfully trade with them and make note of their style, what they say and how they say it (what's their tone of voice?)...

These are just a few examples, but hopefully they'll help to get you started.
